Housebird School

of Music and Dance

Creativity that meets your child where they are 🤍

Nurturing your child’s innate gifts in a beautiful natural setting

Rob and Katie founded Housebird School of Music and Dance as a haven for the study of creativity in community. So many of us parents want to nurture the gifts we see in our children, but many models today for learning dance and music can actually squash what is innate and unfolding naturally in the child. Housebird School is a place for training in Music and Dance, where the developmental needs of the child are a priority, where seasonal celebrations are foundational, and where nature and art merge. Enroll your child today in music and dance classes that inspire and nourish.

  • Dance Teacher

Katie Chal is a former professional ballet dancer, choreographer, and improvisational dance artist based in Cincinnati, OH. She has trained extensively in classical ballet, modern, and contemporary forms, with a growing emphasis on movement improvisation as a pathway to healing.

In her professional career, she danced with Nashville Ballet and DeLa Dance Company in Cincinnati. She is known for her playful, emotional, and authentically human approach to movement performance and pedagogy.

She worked in the Early Childhood at the Cincinnati Waldorf School for 2.5 years and has studied Waldorf Early Childhood Education at the Sunbridge Institute in New York. In her time at Waldorf, she learned deeply of the sacredness of childhood, and she applies this reverence for the kingdom of childhood in her dance teaching.

As a choreographer and director she has created works for both professional dancers and in collaboration with her husband, Rob. They’ve performed extensively as a creative duo. Their 2018 work “Re-grooving”, performed at the Cincinnati Fringe Festival received critical acclaim and the “Producer’s Pick of Fringe”.

In 2023, she founded lifeinmovement, teaching dance workshops, classes, and private movement sessions that help women connect with their joy, vitality, and radiant health. Incorporating play, movement improvisation, and choreography, her classes provide a holistic, healing movement experience that garners self-love, awareness, and spiritual connection.

Katie believes dance is a divinely guided art form and sacred gift that has the ability to open our hearts to the wonder, beauty, and depth of life.
